Democrats Gain Seat in State Senate
Dave Marsden won the special election on January 12, 2010, for the 37th state senatorial seat that was left vacant after the election of State Senator Ken Cuccinelli to the Office of Attorney General. The Washington Post considered Marsden’s victory an upset. With Marsden’s victory, Democrats have a solid advantage in the Senate, 22-18. Marsden’s victory is clearly good news for Democrats after the substantial losses in the House of Delegates after the November general election.
